Choosing an industry-qualified letting agent

At JNP, we believe in setting the highest standards in lettings. We know that our landlords look to us for guidance and expetise, and that's why we invest in our team's professional development.

With a number of industry-qualified team members, with a level 3 or 4 Propertymark qualification, our letting agents are dedicated to setting the standard in the ever-changing landscape of the rental market.

We know that our landlords look to us for guidance and expertise. That's why we care about having the right skills in our team. Our qualified agents have the letters MARLA after their name. This stands for Member of the Association of Residential Letting Agents, a professional accreditation awarded by ARLA Propertymark. It’s a mark of trust, expertise, and compliance in the UK lettings industry.

Some agents may also have the letters FARLA after their name. This is a fellowship grade indicating that the agent has passed their level 4 qualification.

What experience does a Propertymark-recognised letting agent have?

  • A level 3 or 4 qualification in residential lettings
  • A minimum of twelve months' experience in the industry
  • All qualified agents are actively committed to ongoing professional development to stay ahead of changes in the landscape.

Benefits of choosing an industry-qualified agent

Ben Stokes MARLA

Lettings Director

For me, it's about raising standards and leading by example—because property agents deserve to be recognised as professionals.

Ben Stokes

As someone who has worked in the property industry since leaving school, I’ve always been deeply invested in the residential lettings sector. It’s an area that constantly challenges you, where no two days are the same, and where you’re always learning. Despite this, it's still an industry where no formal qualifications are required to trade—which is something I’ve always found surprising.

I chose to take the ARLA  technical award level 3 qualification, and am now working towards my Level 4, to demonstrate not just to my clients, but to my team, that we are true professionals in what we do. With legislation and best practice evolving so frequently, staying up to date isn’t optional - it’s essential.

As Vice President of Propertymark, I’m passionate about driving change and and proud to be at the forefront of the mission to raise standards across the sector. Unfortunately, our industry is sometimes tarnished by the actions of a small minority. My goal is to change that narrative. Across the UK, there are thousands of agents doing fantastic work every day - protecting their clients, offering sound advice, and managing what is often a landlord’s most valuable asset. By qualifying, we show our commitment to being part of that trusted group.

Completing the qualifications gives you the confidence to navigate complex legal situations and the reassurance of being backed by a professional body. For me, it's about raising standards and leading by example—because property agents deserve to be recognised as professionals.

Lloyd Buston MARLA

Lettings Manager

Being an agent isn’t just about managing properties and conducting viewings, it’s about leading with trust, expertise, and pride in what we do.

Lloyd Buston

I’ve been immersed in the property industry for over 10 years now, and one thing has always stood out to me -  residential lettings is an area where you never stop learning. Every day brings new challenges, from navigating complex legislation to supporting clients through some of their biggest life decisions. It’s a dynamic, ever-evolving profession that demands knowledge, adaptability, and integrity.

What often surprises people is that there are no mandatory qualifications required to work in lettings, despite how intricate and regulated the role has become. For me, that was a clear motivation to pursue professional training. I chose to complete my ARLA Level 3 qualification and am now progressing towards Level 4, not only to strengthen my own expertise but to demonstrate to clients and my team, that I/we take our profession seriously.

Property legislation and best practice are constantly changing, and keeping up to date is more than just good business, it’s a responsibility. Achieving these qualifications brings a real sense of confidence and credibility. It’s about setting higher standards, inspiring others to do the same, and ensuring that agents are recognised for the depth of knowledge and professionalism they bring to every interaction.

Because being an agent isn’t just about managing properties and conducting viewings, it’s about leading with trust, expertise, and pride in what we do.
